Overview

This was a monitoring project designed to analyse, in social media and the digital press, the nature of the attitudes and narratives surrounding the victims of certain types of violence.  Continuous monitoring of the role being assumed by victims in certain geographical areas (Basque Autonomous Community, Spain, France, Ireland, EU) is performed and compared with the attitudes displayed by society regarding the victims.

Challenge

The challenge was to extract and analyse information over several months on a specific topic in various digital media sources and across the Twitter social network. The following has to be done: continuous monitoring, reference gathering, topic development, processing in real time of the individuals/organisations taking part, and the identification of their origin in a multilingual environment (Basque, French, Spanish and English).

Collaboration

This is a project developed as part of a piece of research by the Basque Institute of Criminology (IVAC-KREI).

The results of the research were included in this publication: “Reflejos de las víctimas en los medios digitales y las redes sociales: su impacto en el discurso sociojurídico (Papel + e-book): Un estudio a través del análisis de big data”.
