Overview

In the digitalisation age, the media have been facing new needs and challenges, and have derived added value from automatic transcription and subtitling. Using Orai's speech recognition technology solutions, Hamaika Telebista now offers subtitles to meet society's accessibility needs by enabling people with hearing impairments to follow the news, and by providing the general public with a new tool to facilitate the learning of Basque.

Challenge

News items and videos are automatically subtitled before being included in the catalogue, and any potential errors in the subtitles can be corrected. The system has been extensively trained, and a large number of corrections have been made so that subtitles can be offered automatically.

Collaboration

This project has emerged out of collaboration with Hamaika Telebista and KAM. A technological roadmap will be developed; it aims to subtitle dialogues and speeches in dialectal Basque, translate subtitles into other languages as well as create audio files in other languages, automatically dub from other languages into Basque, extract keywords from texts and prepare summaries automatically.

Result

The integration and adaptation of Orai's automatic subtitling technologies into Hamaika Telebista's work processes.
