Voice cloning

Overview

Orai has created two natural synthetic voices for Berria newspaper, so that listeners can hear the day's important news items by means of TTS technology. Every day, the full text of selected news items is sent to the Orai API for text-to-speech conversion. It is now possible to listen to written texts thanks to a button integrated into the news item.

Challenge

TTS technology can greatly benefit online print media, as it converts written text into audio. Firstly, the inclusion that paper does not offer people with cognitive problems such as dyslexia can be guaranteed. Secondly, the trend towards audio formats (podcasts that can be listened to with headphones anywhere) has been growing significantly in today's society, partly replacing written content, and this solution allows the media to adapt to this trend and reach a wider audience.

So what is needed is a TTS system that reads texts in Basque naturally, including the correct pronunciation of numbers, acronyms, dates, foreign names, etc. Personalised, exclusive voices are also needed. And finally, they need to be integrated seamlessly into the interface.

The development of TTS technology in recent years has enabled Orai to create very natural-sounding synthetic voices that read the news to the listener.
