A pioneering industrial robot that can converse in Basque - TECNALIA
:
The Basque version of TECNALIA’s industrial robot, HIRO, integrates text-to-speech (TTS) and automatic speech recognition (ASR), developed by Orai for noisy industrial environments. The robot, which can be configured or programmed via a conversation, allows people and machines to interact through speech.
A pioneering industrial robot that can converse in Basque - TECNALIA :
Overview
The combination of speech and generative technologies can change the way we interact with machines and how they adapt to our needs. These advances give rise to new forms of interaction, such as natural voice conversation, which is revolutionising the way we communicate with machines and automated systems and how these react and respond.
HIRO, the robot developed by TECNALIA, is capable of understanding instructions about the actions it has to perform, through a brief conversation it can have in more than one language, including Basque. This means that anyone can configure the robot to perform different tasks, even without any technical knowledge or programming experience.
Challenge
For speech recognition in Basque, Orai’s technology was implemented in an industrial robot developed by TECNALIA, giving excellent results. The robot is integrated with TTS for Basque and ASR for noisy industrial environments.
Collaboration
The TECNALIA research and technological development centre seamlessly integrated Orai’s technology. This has opened up a new path to promoting the development of technologies that allow for a more natural interaction in Basque between people and technological systems: robots, industrial controls, machine tools and other platforms.
Result
TECNALIA and Orai have developed a pioneering industrial robot capable of having a conversation with operators and then configuring itself autonomously based on the conversation. The Basque version was developed in collaboration with Orai.
